Duties
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for a full range of IT Specialist duties. Typical work assignments will include:
Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems.
Managing accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment.
Installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software systems.
Assisting in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware.
Maintaining telecommunications systems using knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
Monitoring the functionality, security, and integrity of internet services. Managing internet servers.
Analyzing policies and procedures to ensure information systems reliability and accessibility and to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks and data.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.

Qualifications
GS-9/11: I have information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:
1. Attention to Detail - Performs testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, maintenance of resources used for the transmission of information in data, voice and/or video format. Ensures systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
2. Customer Service - Provides customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training in response to user requirements.
3. Oral Communication - Coordinates support services in response to customer needs. Develops standards and procedures for applications and coordinates efforts with team members.
4. Problem Solving - Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools. AND
GS-09: Specialized Experience: In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in Federal service. identifying and resolving problems, troubleshooting cause and providing recommendations for resolution, providing user training on hardware, software, and internet applications; and providing help desk support to users. OR
EDUCATION: A Master's degree or equivalent degree (such as an LL.B.) in a related field (e.g., Information Science, Engineering, Computer Science); OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in a related field OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks: Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management. OR
Combination of Education/Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described in A and graduate education as described in B which when combined, graduated education is in excess of 1 full year.
GS-11: Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customers hardware and software, performing network diagnostics and resolves network problems, resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability and enhancements and monitoring functionality, security and integrity of Internet and Intranet services. OR
Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR
Combination of Education/Experience: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education as described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Only graduate education in excess of 2 full years is creditable.)
