Duties
Plan, direct, and carry through to completion major manufacturing and test equipment design projects requiring the design of a wide variety of special tooling, and test equipment.
Schedule the work to provide effective utilization of lower grade designers assigned to the projects and to provide for efficient accomplishment of the projects to meet established completion dates.
Conduct and direct the preparation and maintenance of complete manufacturing equipment design packages, including tooling designs, machine modifications, operation drawings, and calibration procedures.
Prepare periodic progress reports for each assigned project showing percentage of completion, actual accomplishments, problem areas, and reason for any significant deviations from planned progress.
Maintain liaison with engineers, technicians and personnel of other arsenal elements, other government agencies and private industry to keep abreast of latest engineering requirements.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

- Position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 4 years. Term appointments may be extended beyond 6 years, up to 8 years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond 8 years.
- Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a term appointment will be appointed/converted into a term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.

(2) Assist in the preparation and maintenance of complete manufacturing equipment design packages, including tooling designs, machine modifications, installation requirements, operation drawings, and calibration procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-07).
GS-10: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:
(1) Analyze and evaluate existing manufacturing methods and equipment to improve present, and develop new, manufacturing equipment and/or processes. (2) Assist in the preparation and maintenance of complete manufacturing equipment design packages, including tooling designs, machine modifications, operation drawings, and calibration procedures. (3) Develop operation drawing packages depicting the sequence of operations and/or process flow. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-09).
GS-11: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:(1) Analyze and evaluate existing manufacturing methods and equipment to improve present, and develop new, manufacturing equipment and/or processes. (2) Assist in the preparation and maintenance of complete manufacturing equipment design packages, including tooling designs, machine modifications, operation drawings, and calibration procedures. (3) Develop operation drawing packages depicting the sequence of operations and/or process flow. (4) Utilization of various software packages such as CAD and industrial process flow simulations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-10).
