This position is located in Kayenta Service Unit, Division of Nursing Services, Primary Care Branch, Family Medicine Unit, Kayenta, Arizona. The purpose of this position is to provide initial patient screening, registration, and administrative services by assisting with direct patient care that involves specialized medical procedures of a routine nature according to established clinical protocol.
Duties
Incumbent is alert to safety and infection control issues and reports any incidents
Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks by checking in patients; obtaining patient histories;
Works with healthcare providers
Performs routine specialized procedures of venipuncture, injections and intravenous cannulation to collect specimen, electrocardiograms and sterile dressing changes
Provides care to assigned patients under the direction of the Licensed Independent Practitioner and department lead nurse
Assists with sterile procedures of sutures, spinal taps, pelvic exams and physical exams and clean procedures of cast application
Monitors and reports patients to medical provider, nurse, charge nurse, or supervisor
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Individual Occupational Requirements:
Specialized experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
For GS-05: Candidate must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level to qualify for the GS-5 level. Example of experience: measure height, weight, vital signs; assist with patient/client visits; documents all patient/client encounters & activities; serves as a liaison; organize & provide training for current software application; etc.
OR
Education and Training: For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above the GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
For GS-06: Candidate must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level to qualify for the GS-6 level. Example of experience: Non-professional work of a technical or support nature in the field of health and medicine, such as taking vital signs; determining what the provider needs to treat the patient, monitoring patient's conditions by interviewing patient; assisting with the following: administrative support, assisting with activities of daily living, taking and monitoring vital signs, preparing for procedures setups (suturing, etc.), preparing patient rooms prior to use and cleaning afterwards, assisting staff with resuscitation skills (using bag-valve mask; chest compressions) and assisting doctors and nurses with treatment needs.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
