This position is located at the Kayenta Service Unit (KSU), Division of Clinical Services, Podiatry Unit, Kayenta, AZ. The health care provider performs a variety of task related to the preservation or restoration of function to patients with disabling conditions of the lower limbs. The Podiatry Health Technician assists the provider in accomplishing these goals.
Duties
The purpose of this position is to provide initial patient screening, registration, and administrative services by assisting with direct patient care that involves specialized medical procedures of a routing nature according to established clinical protocol.
Assists the Podiatrist with office surgical procedures including but not limited to soft tissue, foreign body removal, wart excision, incision and drainage, soft tissue mass excision and phenol and alcohol matrixectomies as well as nail avulsions.
Independently removes and applies wound care dressings. Educates the patient in wound care and wound healing. Pick appropriate wound care products to apply to patients wounds.
Removes sutures, steristrips and skin staples.
Provides or arranges, based on competency, Navajo and English medical interpretation for the Podiatrist and the patient when needed to answer patients' questions, prepare patients for examinations and surgeries and to assist Podiatrist and patient with exam, patient history, chief complaint, diagnosis, treatment, patient education and follow up.
Educates patients, families and staff about ambulation aids, footwear and orthotics, braces splints and casts.
Coordinates patient referrals for vascular testing and interventional procedures for limb salvage. Coordinate all other patient referrals from and to the Podiatry clinic.
Uses standing order to order radiographs and laboratory testing for patients in the electronic health record system.
Performs proper screening and documentation of, including but not limited to, patients' vital signs, chief complaint, patient education, lower extremity vascular testing, monofilament examination, health factors and exams in the Electronic Health Record.
Orders and maintains an inventory of materials, supplies, instruments and equipment used in Podiatry clinic, on a daily, so as to insure availability..
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at the GS-07
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level obtained in either the public or private sector. Example of specialized experience: removes and applies dressings; obtains vital signs; maintain flow of patients, maintain inventory of supplies, oversees patient referrals, etc.
One full year of graduate education in an area of study directly related to the work of this position.
A combination of education and specialized experience listed above. One year of graduate education is equivalent to 18 semester hours unless the school has determined otherwise.
Specialized Experience:
Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
Time In Grade:
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
