Position is located in the Branch of Nursing Services, Inpatient Unit of the Kayenta Service Unit, Kayenta, AZ. Purpose of this position is to serve as a Health Technician and Motor Vehicle Operator in the Emergency Room and Inpatient Unit. The incumbent receives administrative direction from the Inpatient Supervisory Nurse.
Duties

Assesses patient's conditions
Ability to recognize emergencies
Continually monitors and assesses patient's clinical condition, recognize, identifies, and interprets serious situations and initiates proper intervention upon direction of physician and/or nurse
Documents assessment, patient care, patient education and patient's response to care
In emergency situations when providers or charge nurse are not immediately available; initiates appropriate action
Administers oxygen, assist in childbirth, control hemorrhage, and bandage wounds, stabilize and splint fractures, give care for behavioral emergencies
Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating standards of care and performance improvement measures
Documents patient care activities in Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Participates in replenishment, ordering of patient care supplies
Assists in the moving, transferring and lifting of patients
Set up exam room with necessary instruments and supplies
Assist in preparation of patient admissions or transport
Functions as motor vehicle operator for inter-facility transports and on-scene responses when necessary
Escorts stable patients via ground transport to other facilities
Completes accident report forms when necessary
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Individual Occupational Requirements:
Specialized experience: Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
For GS-06: Candidate must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level to qualify for the GS-6 level. Example of experience: Assess and monitor patient's conditions and reports changes to professional staff, assist in the moving, transferring and lifting of patients, assist physician with diagnostic procedures i.e., lumbar punctures, aspiration procedures, administration of oxygen, etc. Prepares exam rooms including setting up specialized trays. Performs waived testing, specimen collection, venipuncture, etc. Experienced in electronic health documentation, familiar with first responder procedures.
NOTE: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above the GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
