This position is located at the Kayenta Service Unit, Division of Nursing Services, Emergency Room, Fast Track Unit, Kayenta, Arizona. The Emergency Room and Fast Track (FT) is an active patient care area. The requirement of patient care requiring various ancillary Fast Track duties over and beyond the capability of a nursing assistant is needed.
Duties
The purpose of this position is for provision of reception duties, assisting the registered nurse and the physician with patient care services as appropriate and to maintain supplies/equipment including efficient, effective, timely and culturally sensitive health care services to trauma, emergent and non-emergent patients.
Assist in moving, transferring and lifting patients when needed using appropriate body mechanics or assistive devices.
Assist in obtaining equipment for inhalation therapy, urinary catheterizations, and intravenous cannulations.
Sets up exam rooms with necessary instruments and supplies for specimen collection.
Setup and operates non-stress test for clients in labor.
Assist medical provider with diagnostic procedures such as lumbar punctures, aspiration procedures, throat cultures, wound cultures and other cultures by setting up specialized trays.
Shares in the responsibility of the maintenance of clinical records by recording vital signs, height and weight, intake output; and any observation relative to patient's condition and reaction.
Assesses patient's conditions by interviewing patients and reviews medical records.
Performs 12 lead EKG and rhythm strips; phlebotomy on patients of all ages; obtains label specimens: urine, through cultures, wound cultures, etc.
Performs waived testing such as urinalysis, blood glucose, rapid strep testing, or obtaining nasal swab for testing, etc.
Performs Veni-puncture and finger sticks to obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-5: Candidate must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 and/or 4 years above high school.
Specialized experience: Taking patient vital signs, taking medical histories, preparing patients for medical tests and examinations, assisting physicians during examinations, explaining medical procedures to patients, sterilizing medical instruments, perform general office duties, operate patient care equipment, administer breathing treatments and immunizations, and experience with referral processing and durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and medical supplies orders.
GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5.
Specialized experience: Preparing patient for examinations, recording patient information, taking medical histories, assisting the Physician during examinations, explaining medical procedures to patients, collect Laboratory specimens, operate patient care equipment. Assisting with sterile procedures, restocking supply, preparing transfer/transport packets, participating in meetings, assisting with oxygen administration, and participating in performance improvement projects.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
