You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER (Battalion Chief of EMS) in the Naval District Washington of HDQTRS NDW.
Duties
You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire.
You will assign work to junior firefighters or employees based on priorities, requirements, and capabilities.
You will establish performance standards for subordinates, keep them informed of their progress, and rate their performances.
You will handle emergency situations that may arise at hazardous material fire and spills.
You will be responsible for taking precautionary measures to prevent risks in the platoon and on the scene of emergency situations.

- This position is considered a "secondary" position within the Firefighter Special Retirement System. Secondary positions are supervisory or administrative positions.
- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Applying principles, practices, and techniques applicable to fire protection elements involving fire prevention, aircraft, structural, ordinance and shipboard firefighting; 2) Training personnel in fire protection and prevention; and 3) Managing a hazardous materials protection and control program (i.e., knowledge of hazardous materials used; development of contingency plan; deployment of vehicles with specialized equipment, etc.).

Certification Requirements:
The position requires the following accredited certifications:
- Fire Officer I, II, & III
- Fire Inspector I & II
- Fire Instructor I & II
- Hazardous Materials Technician
- Hazardous Materials Incident Commander
- Airport Firefighter
- National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic
- You must possess and maintain National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (NR-EMT-P).
**These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC, Pro-Board and National Registry to meet the requirement.
