You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER in the Fire and Emergency Services of HDQTRS NDW.
Duties
You will serve as the Assistant Fire Chief of Fire Prevention. This position involves assistance, advice, and recommendations concerning fire prevention matters to all levels of commands within the area where fire protection services are provided.
You will provide oversight for reviews of plans for new construction and alteration and extension of existing structures.
You will conduct or supervise investigations of fires to determine cause and report findings to responsible command authority.
You will inspect operations, facilities, and buildings to determine adequacy of fire safety practices and to test operational readiness.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

- Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
- This position is considered a "secondary" position within the Firefighter Special Retirement System. Secondary positions are supervisory or administrative positions.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Fighting structural, shipboard, and/or airfield fires using pre-fire planning methods and knowledge of layouts and design; 2) Operating firefighting emergency vehicles and equipment; 3) Providing hazardous material incident response; 4) Applying construction principles, codes, and designs to evaluate the technical adequacy of all fire protection and life safety features; AND 5) Providing basic life support procedures as needed for each emergency call.

Certification Requirements:
The position requires the following accredited certifications:
Fire Officer I, II, & III, Fire Inspector I, II, & III, Fire Instructor I & II, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter.
**These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.
Other training that must be obtained within one year of employment and maintained includes: Emergency Vehicle Operator, (EVOC), and must obtain and maintain National Registry or State EMT to meet the certification requirement.
