This Supervisory Rehabilitation Technician will be assigned to Mental Health Service, Domiciliary Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Programs (DRRTP), VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics (SORCC), White City, OR. The position will provide short term, rehabilitation services to Veterans, family members, and groups of Veterans while supervising a team of Rehabilitation Technicians (RT) in providing inpatient front-line clinical services for our 24/7 setting treatment programs.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Assisting with specialized treatment services for veterans with serious mental illnesses, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, dual diagnoses, and other psychological problems.
Functioning as a front-line supervisor for direct care Rehabilitation Technicians, serving as a consumer advocate working with the individual veterans to bring about a reconciliation of issues, and providing support for veterans and staff in the program.
Identifying veteran treatment goals, supporting the treatment plan, and obtaining other pertinent clinical information in conjunction with the treatment team.
Providing consultation to staff and leadership of the therapeutic community groups and resident committees.
Assisting veterans who are diagnosed with mental illnesses or co-occurring disorders to achieve their personal recovery and wellness goals by promoting self-determination, personal responsibility, and empowerment in self-directed recovery and wellness.
Assisting the program Operations Manager with oversight of the programs 24/7 front-line clinical staff.
Providing direct administrative and technical supervision to a team of rehabilitation technicians who use patient-centered, holistic approaches in their delivery of 24/7 front-line clinical care.
Recruiting and selecting new rehabilitation technician providers using standardized position descriptions and interviewing techniques and formats.
Coordinating all 24/7 front-line clinical staffing coverage to ensure that services are available to the programs service users as part of their comprehensive treatment and wellness recovery services.
Instructing rehabilitation technician providers in specific tasks and rehabilitation technicians in counseling techniques.
Assisting veterans to articulate personal goals for recovery through the use of one-to-one and group sessions.
Completing critical incident management and providing crisis intervention and other emergency veteran situations with specific instructions.
Maintaining thorough knowledge of current trends in the field of mental health, recovery, and substance abuse by attending seminars, workshops and continuing education courses.
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Various tours. 24/7. Includes nights, weekends and holidays. Details to be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-9 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to the GS-8 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is: Experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists.
Additional specialized experience includes evaluating and treating patients who are diagnosed with mental illnesses or co-occurring disorders; identifying treatment goals and supporting the treatment plan in conjunction with the treatment team; facilitating individual and group counseling sessions; utilizing appropriate crisis intervention techniques; serving as the first level supervisor planning the regular and recurring work assignments and disciplinary measures of other staff. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: You must have successfully completed two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a field of study directly related to the work of this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours will be considered an academic year of graduate study. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must possess equivalent combinations of specialized experience and successfully completed graduate education as described above to meet the total experience requirements to qualify at the GS-9 level.
