You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST / OCEANOGRAPHER / GEOPHYSICIST in the Geospatial Enablement Branch, Data Management Divison, Hydrographic Department of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will coordinate/conduct the examination and evaluation of hydrographic and bathymetric datasets. You will review ongoing requirements and production plans to prioritize processing, gridding, and cataloging of hydrographic and bathymetric data. You will develop and maintain process documentation, including revisions to standard operating procedures. You will provide testing and evaluation of new data processing software, enhancements to existing software, and fixes to existing software to correct reported deficiencies. You will identify problems and coordinate solutions with NAVOCEANO and other survey platforms.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying knowledge from the fields of mathematics, physics, and computer science along with oceanography, hydrography, and/or bathymetry to solve problems. Experience preparing material based on technical and scientific abilities. Experience assisting in the development, maintenance, and improvement of acoustic and geophysical databases. Experience planning, organizing, and directing work of other subordinates, oceanographers, and technicians. Experience performing assigned tasks on in-house data processing of navigation and bathymetric, hydrographic, and/or oceanographic information using the latest ADP. Basic Education Requirement

Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
A combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1313-
Successful completion of a degree that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).
OR
A combination of experience and education that included at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.), plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1360-
Successful completion of a degree with a major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences. Please Note: Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
OR
A combination of education and experience that includes course work in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Please Note: Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
