THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP. This National Guard position is for a MACHINIST LEADER, Position Description Number PDD2739000 and is part of the Mississippi National Guard.

Duties

As a MACHINIST LEADER, WL-3414-11, you will provide sustainment base maintenance in support of regional Army National Guard (ARNG) Aviation assets and supports field maintenance in accordance with ARNG Aviation priorities. The AVCRAD maintenance activities ensure aircraft of the region are ready and available to support Federal and State missions. In addition, the AVCRAD performs National Maintenance Program (NMP) repair of rotary wing aircraft and components, limited depot airframe repair, aircraft painting, major airframe repair, depot-level component repair, and component repair and management, as directed by Army Materiel Command (AMC), and prioritized by the National Guard Bureau (NGB). MAJOR DUTIES: (1) Passes on instructions received from the supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work for other workers. Ensures needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Works along with other employees and sets pace performing non-supervisory work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led. Checks work in progress and finished work for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines and urges or advises other employees to follow supervisor's instructions and meet deadlines. Answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other direction (e.g., technical orders). Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). (2) Operates a variety of shop machines, including the engine lathe, milling machine, radial or sensitive drill press, grinding machine, bench late, bench grinder, shaper, planner, saws, horizontal and vertical boring mill, and jig boring machine. Machines parts for instruments, armament, aircraft, equipment, etc. Works closely to prevent cumulative error or the affecting of optical or other properties or characteristics. Performs incidental precision bench and assembly work. Disassembles accessories. Uses hand tools, performs honing and lapping operations with machines; works to dimensional tolerance in achieving the dimensions and finishes required by specifications. (3) Assists with setting up and programming Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) using machine controller, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Software and operating machine tools such as lathes, horizontal and vertical, boring mills, bench, plain, or universal milling machines, shapers, planers, internal and external grinders, thread grinders, radial drills, jig borers, jig grinders, hobbing machines, gear generators, 3D printers, 3D scanners, laser engravers/cutters and numerically controlled machine tools. (4) Determines requirements for work procedures, types of machines and equipment, and proper types of metal for application. Lays out, by measuring and scribbling lines, arcs, circles, angels, tapers, center distances, and location points at various angels and in different planes on work pieces involving a multiplicity of interrelated dimensions. Uses shop mathematics and handbook formulas in making computations. Uses dial indicators, height gages level protractor, center head protractor surface and angle plates, sine bar, Johansson gage blocks, taper and level gages, vernier height and depth gages, comparators, vernier calipers, inside and outside micrometers, and other such devices. (5) Manufactures, repairs, tests, inspects, and reworks metal devices and parts used with and on aircraft and related aircraft maintenance equipment. Welds various metals and alloys using such processes as Heli-arc (Tungsten Insert Gas), arc-welding process, oxyacetylene, and resistance welding processes. Welds butt, lay, tee, and corner joints in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions, depending on welding process and requirement. Shapes and forms metal using various metal working machines. Assists with assignments which require special adaptation and extension of the use of conventional machine tools and the use of specialized and nonconventional machine tools such as jig borers, jig grinders, hobbing machine, thread grinders, gear generators, and numerically controlled machine tools. Heat-treats metal parts of specification requirements. Conducts on-the-job training. Evaluates training effectiveness, reviews work completed by intermediate and lower graded machinists. Required to serve as requested on Maintenance CONTACT teams thought the supported area. Participates in conducting the necessary safety program for the function. (6) Performs other duties as assigned.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers and other types of associated machine tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 24 months of Experience or training performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension. In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.
