About the Position: Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for a Division-sized unit for the US First Army Division East, Office of the Commanding General, Fort Knox, KY.
Duties
Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for a Division-sized unit responsible for administering a safety and occupational health program.
Provides technical guidance during the operations planning process to ensure integration of safety risk management.
Provides technical advice to the Division Commander in the development of guidelines, policies, procedures, and courses of action for safety.
Develop and conduct safety briefings, safety training classes, and professional development classes for leaders within the Command and subordinate organizations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 and must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle driver’s license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
- May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission requirements.
- Temporary duty (TDY) business travel is required up to approximately 25% of the time on an annual basis.
- Required to obtain and maintain standard Army Safety Program certification. Continuous education and training in a tactical field environment is required.
- Position is exposed on a regular and recurring basis to machines and equipment in operation, hazardous materials including compressed gases and flammable liquids, and construction hazards.
- Frequently works outdoors with temperature extremes. Exposure to dust, high noise levels, wind, sand, and environments of fumes and smoke are encountered.
- Exposure to elements associated in combat and contingency operations in CONUS locations. May be required to perform work requiring chemical protective masks and protective clothing.
- Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty at field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
- This mandates walking, standing, stooping, bending, carrying, and similar movements, as well as agility, stamina, and dexterity. Rations and quarters may be similar to that provided to military personnel.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1. Program elements include the formulation of Division safety and occupational health (SOH) directives, prevention and control of mishaps, fire protection, promotion of safety education, and implementation/administration of a mishap reporting system. 2. Conduct basic safety practices and safe physical standards established by the Military Services, Dept. of Labor under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), and other recognized authorities into training and mobilization plans and procedures. 3. Identify, analyze, and provide risk management control measures for life-threatening hazards. 4. Determine and analyze contributing factors and establish appropriate corrective measures based on Army tactical safety knowledge and experience. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11 or above.
