About the Position: This position serves as the advisor to the 1st Theater Sustainment Command (1st TSC) Safety Director planning, organizing, developing, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive safety and occupational health program. Position is in 1st TSC, Fort Knox, Kentucky.
This is a Term position, not-to-exceed 13 months with provisions to extend up to 8 years and to be made permanent. (see additional information below)
Duties
Plans, organizes, develops, coordinates and evaluates a comprehensive Safety and Occupational Health Program for all units and activities.
Provides technical assistance and guidance on all work-related problems and matters relating to compliance with the wide application of Army and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) Standards.
Prepares written guides, standards or regulations to prevent unsafe conditions and prevent accidents.
Plans and organizes a continuous program involving occupational safety and health for both military and civilian personnel.
Investigates hazardous conditions, equipment, practices or equipment to identify and analyze the severity of hazard involved and develop corrective action.
Analyzes accident/mishap reports and performs job analyses to control and minimize hazardous conditions.
Prepares detailed, written reports to higher headquarters concerning the status of safety actions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as Key and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
- Position requires travel temporarily away from the normal duty station up to 25% of the time.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Position requires completion of one (1) year trial period unless the requirement has been previously met.
- Position requires the U.S. Army Safety Professional Certification of the CP-12/PCSOH Program or must complete within 12 months of appointment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Position is covered by the Army Substance Abuse Program, AR 600-85. Must sign a DA Form 5019-R and must pass a urinalysis test as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.

Experience Required:
To qualify based on your work experience, the resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position, such as: Plan and organize a comprehensive Safety and Occupational Health Program for all personnel; Investigate hazardous conditions, equipment, practices or equipment to identify and analyze the severity of hazard involved; Compile and analyze statistical data and prepares charts, tables and reports; Provide technical expertise to managers and supervisors in establishing techniques/procedures for the elimination or control of unsafe behaviors, environments, and hazards.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-11).
