This position is located in the Optometry Department at the Blackfeet IHS Hospital in Browning, MT. This position involves a variety of receptionist, clerical, and technician duties for optometric sciences that increase the overall efficiency of the Optometry Clinic.
Duties
Orders, verifies, adjusts maintains and repairs eyewear. Releases spectacle prescriptions to clientele. Verifies spectacle prescriptions through use of a lens measuring instruments, lens gauges and other instruments.
Greets patients, answers telephone and properly triages calls into categories of routine, urgent and/or emergent, and takes appropriate action.
The incumbent performs filing, computer operation, record keeping duties. Cleans, covers/uncovers equipment to prepare for daily patient care.
Maintains a number of recurring reports, including those concerning patients, materials and equipment. Properly stores and maintains adequate supplies in the Optometry Clinic.
Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

Education and Training
For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position.
For GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
FOR GS-04: 6 months of general experience AND 6 months of specialized experience and/or 2 years above high school education. Specialized experience includes: performing tests requested by a physician, but not limited to visual fields, performed selected eye care test while understanding the protocol from the physician.
For GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: ordering glasses from optical manufacturers; performing simple repairs of damaged or broken frames; managing an appointment system; documenting care activities in electronic health records. Or successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. Or possess a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
