About the Position: Safety and Occupational Health Advisor to the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) Commander, Staff, and Battalion Commanders at Fort Eustis, VA. Fort Eustis, VA is located in Newport News, between historic Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. The Hampton Roads/Tidewater area has all the conveniences of a big city with charm of small town and rural areas. This is a Term/Obligated Position NTE 3 Years.

Duties

Serves as the principal Safety and Occupational Health Advisor. Plans, administers, and is responsible for ensuring 24 hour-a-day Safety Program for all assigned and attached personnel including dependents. Provides guidance and supervises the implementation of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) requirements. Evaluates and inspects (1) Subordinate units operations work sites; (2) transportation including vehicle operations, rail operations, and air operations; (3) Range Operations; (4) Ammunition and explosive, operations and storage. Evaluates and inspects (5) Military training; (6) Tactical operations; (7) Industrial operations; (8) Accident investigations, reporting, and administration; (9) Operations involving use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation. Evaluates and inspects (10) Public safety; (11) Family, dependent, and off the job accident prevention; (12) Environmental, Safety and Occupational health (ESOH) areas. Investigates serious accidents involving activities of the Army. Represents the Brigade at higher command meetings involving the development of occupational safety training requirements, coordination of safety campaigns, environmental, occupational health, and development of standards for major command programs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position must obtain and maintain a tactical military driver's license.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Exam and an annual exam thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing.
  • This position has been designated as Emergency-Essential. Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 60 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
