The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups.
Duties
This Legal Administrative Specialist (Litigation Support) (Recent Graduate) provides support to civil and/or criminal litigation teams.
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Legal Administrative Specialist (Litigation Support) (Recent Graduate) support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, located in Brooklyn, New York, focusing in the areas of litigation support; customer support; technical assistance with case presentation and preparation.
Typical work assignments will include:
Performing routine litigation support tasks necessary to process common electronically stored information.
Implementing technical solutions needed for civil and/or criminal cases.
Applying knowledge of the litigation process, federal rules of procedure and evidence, and court requirements.
Providing customer support services and project management services to litigation team members.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
This is an excepted service appointment under the Pathways Recent Graduates Program. This appointment is a one year career development program. At the successful completion of the program requirements, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional appointment. Requirements
- Recent graduates must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States.
- Selective Service: Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see http://www.sss.gov/).
- All Federal employees are required to have Federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
- You must successfully pass a background investigation. This may include a credit check, a review of financial issues, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs.

Qualifications
Pathways Recent Graduate Eligibility Requirements: You must be a recent graduate who has completed within the last two (2) years of the close date of this announcement, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying education institute. Veterans who were unable to apply within two (2) years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, may be extended up to six years.
Note: You must submit transcripts (unofficial or official) and/or a letter from an education institute stating that you have meet all degree requirements to be considered eligible for the Pathways Recent Graduate Program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
To qualify at the GS-07 level, you must possess:
Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service performing (2) of the (3) (obtained in either the public or private sectors) the duties listed below:
Performing routine and recurring litigation support assignments (i.e. processing electronic files, performing basic document review);
Analyzing project requirements to identify appropriate litigation support approaches;
Utilizing litigation technology software to prepare, produce and/or present discovery, evidence or electronic files relevant to civil and/or criminal cases.
OR one full year of progressively higher level graduate education in a legal field or related field;
OR demonstrate superior academic achievement performance at the undergraduate level (demonstrated by applicant finishing in the upper third of their class, 3.0 GPA or greater on final transcript (4.0 scale), 3.5 GPA or greater in major field of study (4.0 scale); or be a member of a listed National Scholastic Honor Society);
OR a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.

To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:
Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
Demonstrated successful job performance.
Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.
