You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST in the Weld Programs Branch in the Welding Programs & NDT Division, Code 135 of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER. Pay Scale: GS-09 $68,297-$88,786 GS-11 $82,633-$107,421

Duties

You will be responsible for confirming contractor's welding programs conform to contract and NAVSEA requirements. You will perform contractor compliance audits, contractor procedures and perform deck plate welding and inspection oversight. You will serve as a technical expert responsible for the correct interpretation and applicant of welding technical issues. You will be responsible for defining complex technical issues and providing recommended solutions. You will be responsible for developing deviation and waiver documents as required to support the maintenance mission.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

For the GS-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: conducting quality assurance audits and surveillances of welding and Nondestructive Testing processes to identify deficiencies and recommend corrective action. For the GS-09:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting with quality assurance audits and surveillances of welding and Nondestructive Testing processes to identify deficiencies and recommend corrective action. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Substitution of education for GS-11:
Completion of Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)
~OR~
