This position will be assigned to the JBSA Lackland Outdoor Recreation Center. This is a Regular Part-Time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week. Employees appointed to a Regular category position are eligible for benefits.
Duties
Under the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation (ODR) Director, The Recreation Assistant plans, organizes, directs, executes, and evaluates a wide array of year-round outdoor recreational activities/programs including but not limited to: Recharge for Resiliency (R4R), Single Airmen Program Initiative (SAPI); general Outdoor Adventure Programs including water and land-based activities; and other instructional programs. Program plans must include risk assessment, comprehensive itineraries, and a process for obtaining customer comments and suggestions. The Recreation Assistant recommends new programming activities, to include type of format and resources the activity would require, and they gather information from a wide range of different sources, including past programs and current popular programs in other communities. They may assist the ODR Director in assigning duties for Outdoor Adventure Program guides and volunteers, assign and review work, and provide training for program staff to ensure adequate skills in emergency procedures and in customer relations. The Recreation Assistant develops a detailed annual/quarterly adventure program based upon site surveys and customer input, establishes calendars, confirms itineraries, obtains permits/tickets where applicable, and plans and conducts post/pre-departure meeting with participants. They coordinate special group programs on an as needed basis to include self-guided programs and professional (contracted) guided programs. They may perform day to day budget management actions such as tracking funds distribution, reconciling commitment/obligation, and real locating assigned program funds. They may prepare and maintain data necessary to support short and long range APF and NAF budgets. Assists ODR Director in assigning duties for Outdoor Adventure Program guides and volunteers, assigns and reviews work, provides training for program staff to ensure adequate skills in emergency procedures and in customer relations.
The Recreation Assistant performs administrative tasks such as preparing after action reports, sending program information to customers, responding to customer critiques and comment cards, and maintaining program records. They will routinely brief on and off base organizations regarding the variety of programs offered by Outdoor Recreation. The Recreation Assistant must demonstrate techniques and instruct participants in the use of equipment.

Requirements
- The incumbent must possess a valid driver's license.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination. The incumbent must be capable of lifting and moving 40lbs unassisted.
- The incumbent must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
- The incumbent must pass a drug test. The incumbent must possess a valid driver's license.
- The incumbent must be able to work in various weather conditions.

Qualifying Experience:
Applicant must have progressive experience in planning, organizing, conducting, and evaluating outdoor adventure programs. Practical experience which has provided familiarity and knowledge of the procedures need to facilitate, lead, or instruct individuals or groups in recreation programs and activities is desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):Your qualifications will be evaluated on the bases of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1.Must possess skill in dealing with public.
2. Must possess the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle with attached trailer
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
