This position is located in the VA Construction Section of the Facility Management Service (FMS) at the Veteran Affairs Caribbean Health Care System (VACHS). The selectee will preform electrician duties. The selectee is assigned the electrical maintenance, repair and construction of building facility and equipment.
Duties
Include, but are not limited to:
Construct, install, modify, repair, troubleshoot (trace and locate problems), load and test new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, communication (tele/data) and other electrical equipment.
Work under general supervision of a higher-grade foreman.
Determine work methods and trade technique to accomplish assignments.
Follow sketches, wiring diagrams or blueprints.
Diagnose problems and assist to perform emergency repairs to electrical equipment.
Work in areas undergoing construction and in areas where asbestos abatement may be performed.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, may be required to work on weekends and/or holidays.

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
This position has a language proficiency requirement:
1. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
2. Must be proficient in spoken Spanish.
This Position requires a valid Puerto Rico Electrician license.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work performed by employee is related to station level construction projects and requires lifting, carrying, pulling weights up to 75 pounds. Adjustments, repairs and replacement of parts and materials for assemblies may require kneeling, stooping, climbing ladders, reaching over, under and into equipment while in cramped or awkward positions.
