Employee preforms the duties of Electrician in the VA Construction Section of the Facility Management Service, VA Medical Center, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Plans working details and follows sketches, wiring diagrams or blueprints; consulting his supervisor, when necessary, for the interpretation of unusual or complicated planning, layout and specification problems.
Perform inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs to industrial machinery and technical medical equipment.
Dismantle equipment to locate the failures and repair or replaces parts using a large assortment of mechanical, electrical or special tools.
Work with Industrial machinery and technical medical equipment services to perform initial electric check.
Interprets manufactures books and technical publications, apply the instructions such as the preventive maintenance troubleshooting.
Must have excellent skill in the use of hand tools and tests equipment (voltmeters, ammeters, wattmeters and ohmmeters).
Must be well acquainted of the various gauges, sizes and types of wires, conduits and other accessories and electrical devices to ensure proper and safe operation of systems, circuits and equipment worked on.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Employee makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platform, hydraulic lifts and other hard to reach places. To complete work, employee will stand, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The employee must lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 40 pounds. May also have to lift or move heavy objects over 200 pounds with assistance.
Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside, including in bad weather. Work may need to be completed in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy and bad smelling. Work may require being at a height of over 50 feet or more and in close quarters such as manholes or attics. They are routinely exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, rotary devices such as electrical motors, sharp edges on metal equipment or parts and pointed objects. They are frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
