About the Position: Serves as Protocol Assistant (OA) to work in the Protocol Office at Fort Johnson, LA. Serves as a point of contact for protocol requests (telephonic and/or electronic message) for visits to JRTC & Fort Johnson. Briefs supervisor on visits. Assists in performance of tasks in support of the Commanding General's social functions as well as briefing on the local community events.

Duties

Compose correspondence of a routine and non-technical nature based upon direction which is readily available in the files and records of the office. Research files and records to extract material to compile statistical or narrative data for reports. Serve as point of contact for protocol requests for visits to Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Johnson. Interact with foreign or distinguished visitors utilizing protocol etiquette. Coordinate with U.S. military and/or foreign protocol liaisons to assist in itineraries of proposed visitors to Fort Johnson. Responsible for producing visual information in support of social functions such as seating charts, menus, invitations, parking passes and maps.

Requirements

  • This position requires the services of a fully qualified typist with 40 WPM typing speed.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 Code of Federal Regulations Part 315.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Interpersonal SkillsTechnical CompetenceWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
