You will serve as a AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the Public Works Department of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.
Duties
You will install, repair, inspect, operate, maintain and service specialized heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment systems.
You will maintain environmental control systems to include thermostats, humidistats, relays, pre-coolers, heat exchangers, etc.
You will use all trade tools and test equipment and instruments including, voltage, amperage, and ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, micron vacuum analyzers and pumps, electronic temperature gauges, capacitor analyzers, etc.
You will read blueprints, complex drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams, manufacturing specifications and technical materials.
You will erect, operate, maintain, service and repair environmental test chambers to include chilled water air conditioning systems, direct expansion systems and large centrifugal water-cooled condensing
You will maintain and test water treatment chemical equipment (conductivity controllers and chemical feed pumps).
You will calculate air flow, and the pressure temperature characteristics for different systems in order to locate and repair faulty equipment swiftly and to reduce inoperative time to minimum.
You will ensure associated piping systems, access doors, valves are operable and kept clean and free of obstructions
You will ensure all components for A/C Equipment are properly maintained.
You will perform modifications and tests on controls.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery certification.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.013913
- Shift work may be required, and may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Diagnose, maintain, modify, and repair heating, air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, plumbing, and mechanical equipment in direct support of 24/7 operations while minimizing and coordinating any potential downtimes; 2) Utilize Direct Digital Control Systems to monitor, trouble shoot, and analyze HVAC systems; and 3) Calculate, configure, and connect electrical circuits consistent with national and local electrical codes and safety standards in direct support of facility requirements in a time efficient manner; and 4) Follows safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
