You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the Public Works Department of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

Duties

You will diagnose, locate and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC). You will lubricate moving parts and replaces air filters, v belts, electrical motors, pulleys, sheaves, bearings, fan shafts, etc. You will conduct visual and audible examination of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by explorations of probable reasons for equipment failure. You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment. You will interpret complex multi-view drawings, sketches, manufacture?s specification etc. You will test for refrigerant leaks and uses a refrigerant recovery/ recycling station, to Environmental Protection Agency standards to safely reclaim, recycle and store the refrigerant before repairs can be made.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Mechanic must be able to become CPR, Confined Spaces Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery certified.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by: 1) Diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems (HVAC) such as compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling coils, air handlers, water control valves, and air dampers; 2) Use trade tools and test equipment such as voltage, amperage, and ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, temperature gauges, capacitors, and analyzers; AND 3) Follow safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
