You will serve as a AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.
Duties
You will use test equipment and procedures to locate malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance on air conditioning systems and equipment.
You will repair and replace system components (e.g., fans, pumps, thermostats, humidistats, motors, compressors, valves, gauges, pneumatic and electric controls, filters) for air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
You will troubleshoot refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, and related control systems (e.g., direct digital control [DDC]) to determine system operation and detect component malfunctions.
You will interpret instructions (e.g., building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, maintenance and repair manuals) to determine materials, tools, and equipment needed for air conditioning work.
You will follow safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
- You must possess and maintain a current Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification exam (Universal) as a pre-qualification for this wage grade.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CPR certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems (HVAC) such as compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling coils, air handlers, water control valves, and air dampers; 2) Use trade tools and test equipment such as voltage, amperage, and ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, temperature gauges, capacitors, and analyzers; AND 3) Follow safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
