Duties

You will diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC). You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment. You will conduct visual and audible examination of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by explorations of probable reasons for equipment failure. You will interpret complex multi-view drawings, sketches, manufacture’s specification etc. You will lubricate moving parts and replace air filters, v belts, electrical motors, pulleys, sheaves, bearings, fan shafts, etc. You will test for refrigerant leaks and uses a refrigerant recovery/ recycling station, to Environmental Protection Agency standards to safely reclaim, recycle and store the refrigerant before repairs can be made.

• Mechanic must posses and maintain a current and valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Refrigerant Certification, including completion of the 608 Certification Exam (Universal), as a pre-qualification for this wage grade position.
• Mechanic must be able to become certified in CPR, Confined Space Safety, Backflow Prevention, and Refrigerant Recovery.

Qualifications

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of an Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: 1) Diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems (HVAC) such as compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling coils, air handlers, water control valves, and air dampers; 2) Use trade tools and test equipment such as voltage, amperage, and ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, temperature gauges, capacitors, and analyzers; 3) Follow safety procedures and practices when repairing air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; and 4) Performs maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment. **NOTE: This experience must be fully and clearly supported in your resume.
