About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. Duties
Check for tolerances and fits to specifications.
Adjust and test by use of electrical and mechanical test fixtures, gauges and panels.
Urge or advises other employees to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines.
Pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work.
Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (e.g. technical orders).
Insure that needed plans, blueprints, material and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Handles, stores, and disposes of hazardous material/waste.
- May be required to travel (TDY) 10% of the time for business purposes.
- Must obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
- Must be able to pass pre-employment/change in job physical and maintain annual requirements thereafter.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
- Frequently lifts, carries, and move items in excess of 50 pounds and when needed with the assistance of other workers and/or with the use of a lifting devices.
- Required to wear protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, safety shoes, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situation warrant.
- Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years and can be made permanent without further competition.
- Temporary appointment may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years but cannot be made permanent.
- Time Limited Detail NTE may be made or extended at management discretion.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Repairer Leader without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common leader duties of determining the proper tools, equipment, or parts that is required for the repairs. I can read guides such as blueprints, sketches, and technical manuals to understand the functions of parts or systems; perform repairs on heavy mobile equipment vehicles; and implement troubleshooting analysis to diagnose malfunctions. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Works in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Works on top and under vehicles in cramped or awkward positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and move items in excess of 50 pounds and when needed with the assistance of other workers and/or with the use of a lifting devices.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside a maintenance facility, outside at an unannounced field location, and/or in a lighted shop. Works in a dirty, greasy, muddy, and noisy atmosphere. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and strains. Work involves constant exposure to exhaust fumes, chemicals and extreme weather. Operates vehicle in all types of traffic and weather conditions. Worker is exposed to possible and serious accidents. Is required to wear safety shoes. Ensures that hazardous materials/waste within work area are handled/processed within operating guidelines. Guidance for the proper handling of hazardous materials/waste is obtained through formal training efforts and specific guidance issued by the supervisor. Properly disposes of hazardous materials/waste used/generated at work site. Immediately notifies supervisor of any accident or spill and initiates response actions as directed by supervisor. Since exposure to hazardous materials/waste is possible, wears protective clothing and equipment (e.g., rubber boots, coveralls, goggles, aprons, gloves, respirator, etc.) as situations warrant.
