This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Training Center Yorktown, Training Division, Engineering and Weapons Branch, AC&R School, in Yorktown, VA.

Duties

As a Training Instructor, this position provides instruction and maintains authoritative technical expertise in sustaining/troubleshooting chill water air conditioning systems, water cooled refrigeration, and freezer systems maintenance.  Technical expert for assisting with the development of new acquisitions training projects with emphasis on the Coast Guard's Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) electrical controls.  

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Obtains and maintains USCG's JC (qualified USCG Instructor) or equivalent.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Specialized Experience:  Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area (chill water air conditioning systems, water cooled refrigeration, and freezer systems maintenance) of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction.  Example of qualifying specialized experience include: -Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). -Supervising or administering a training program. -Developing or reviewing training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. -Working in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. Undergraduate and Graduate Education:  Major study -- education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. OR  a master's or equivalent graduate degree.OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.OR  A combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.  National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
