You will serve as an INSPECTOR GENERAL in the Directorate of the Inspector General (IG), Code N01IG, of COMNAVSURFLANT.
Duties
You will serve as the Commander’s principal advisor, SME, technical expert and point of contact for inspections, hotline (non-criminal) investigations, intelligence oversight/Sensitive Activities, integrity, efficiency, audits and assessments.
You will serve as the liaison between the Directorate, Department of Defense Inspector General, Department of the Navy Inspector General and U.S. Fleet Forces Command Inspector General and other CNSL Directorates, divisions, and subordinate commands.
You will discuss and resolve substantive issues relevant to the IG functional responsibilities.
You will be responsible for the oversight of the DON Hotline Investigation program throughout Headquarters and Area Commands.
You will assist complainants in filing IG action requests, and coordinates within the Command to help resolve outstanding issues.
You will ensure that investigative inquiries into allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement are received and/or processed via the Navy Inspector General Hotline tracking System (NIGHTS) are initiated and conducted.
You will oversee inquiries/investigations into a wide spectrum of issues and allegations of impropriety or wrongdoing.
You will conduct discreet, confidential, formal, and informal fact-finding examinations of allegations, issues and adverse conditions.
You will evaluate Investigative Inquiry and Reports of Investigation received from subordinate commands, and staff for content, technical sufficiency, completeness, quality, readability and compliance with law, regulations and policy.
You will maintain personal in-depth program knowledge to answer inquiries, render technical advice, and complete documentation detailing recommendations for corrective actions.
You will directly supervise assigned personnel, plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
You will assign work to subordinates based on priorities and capabilities of employees and evaluate subordinate work performance.
You will use human resource and leadership concepts and techniques to promote a work environment in which all employees are able to excel, with fair and equal opportunity, adhering to DoD, DON, USFFC personnel regulations and merit system principles.
Requirements

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Incumbent is required to be medically screened before embarking on a U.S. Naval ship and complete USFFC/CPD Form 6321-1, when embarking on ships/military vessels for periods over 24 hours.
- Per SECNAVINST 5370.5, IG must meet the requirements for a DON IG investigator and be eligible to hold and maintain IG investigator badge or credentials.
- IG is required to perform the above duties at a variety of job sites within commuting area.
- It is IG’s responsibility to transport himself in an expeditious manner between job sites in the local area of his/her permanent duty station with reimbursement of costs in accordance with Joint Travel Regulations.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience planning and executing an inspection program that assesses compliance of installation programs with applicable laws, rules, and regulations to determine needless expenditures of government funds, the consumption or misuse of government property or resources resulting from deficient practices and systems controls, identifying and eliminating fraud, waste, mismanagement and inefficiencies.
Experience conducting internal investigations, reviews, studies, and analyses relating to areas of administration, security, finance, contracts, resource management and non-appropriated funds.
Experience evaluating and securing compliance with laws and programs through permitting, self-assessments, audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective action activities.
Experience conducting independent and thorough investigations regarding assigned hotline complaints, command directed investigations and other specialized assigned investigations.
Experience in providing oversight to two or more subordinates, planning work to be accomplished by subordinates reviewing their work and correcting before release, setting and adjusting short-term priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work.
Experience in the ability to articulate findings and recommendations in a clear concise manner, both in writing and orally in the form of briefings, conveying research and evidence gathered in an inspection, presenting and promoting varied ideas and issues (to include sensitive and controversial topics) before a wide range of audiences.
