You will serve as a INVESTIGATIONS & INQUIRIES SPECIALIST in the MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND (MSC), OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL of MILITARY SEALIFT COMMAND.

Duties

You will initiate and conduct investigative inquiries into allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement received and/or processed via an Inspector General Hotline Tracking System {NIGHTS). You will maintain full accountability and current status of all cases referred for investigation or inquiry. You will review and analyze final inquiries and investigative products to ensure they are complete, impartial and that investigative findings are fully supported by the evidence. You will conduct quality assurance review of cases to include analysis of evidence. You will ensure findings are based upon regulatory and/or statutory provisions, and corrective actions are addressed within IG Hotline. You will prepare amendments to reports, to include recommendations to amend findings for approval by The Inspector General.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require 10% travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • May be required to work overtime.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Serving as Investigation Officer (IO) for Hotline investigations responsible for providing policy analysis; identifying and performing analyses of allegations; identifying acts of fraud, waste, abuse, and mismanagement; coordinating findings within the chain of command (COC); and preparing reports of investigation and preliminary inquiry reports in support of the IG. Reviewing and analyzing final inquiries and investigative products to ensure they are complete, impartial and that investigative findings are fully supported by the evidence. .
