You will serve as a LEAD FIREFIGHTER (HAZMAT TECHNICIAN/BLS) in the Fire and Emergency Services Department NAS KEY WEST.

Duties

You will lead a crew of firefighters, including at least one firefighter assigned to man a major piece of motorized firefighting equipment. You will direct firefighting crew in the operation of firefighting vehicles and equipment. You will perform structural and aircraft firefighting duties, respond to and mitigate hazardous materials releases, and perform rescue/EMS operations as required.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Detecting fire hazards (potential and immediate) and determining corrective action; 2) Operating firefighting vehicles and equipment in accordance with principles of hydraulics and firefighting techniques; 3) Providing emergency assistance (first aid, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations; 4) Applying the theory of fire propagation and progression to reduce fire hazards and/or combat fires; 5) Leading a crew of firefighters (i.e. directing drills, assigning work, etc.). NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I & II, HazMat Technician, Driver Operator ARFF, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator Aerial, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, and Fire Instructor I. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) If you do not possess all of the above certifications, and provide verification with your application, you will be rated ineligible.
