You will serve as a Lead Firefighter (HAZMAT TECH/BLS) of NAS KEY WEST.

Duties

You will collaborate with fire fighter personnel to ensure emergency responses (e.g., fire suppression, injured victims, hazardous spill cleanup) are assigned. You will identify personal protective equipment and control equipment for inclusion in planning an initial response. You will dispatch firefighting personnel upon receipt of an alarm.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Leads a crew of three or more firefighters assigned to staff a pumper, aerial ladder truck, or airport rescue firefighting (ARFF) vehicle in firefighting and rescue operations. Studies field maps to become familiar with ground areas, specific locations, etc. Ensures that workload is balanced at the fire/rescue scene or in the station. Performs structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes. Performs fire planning by physically going through structures 10 become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protection systems. Combats fire or rescues personnel on board ships where conditions create very difficult and dangerous situations. These include: a small passage that restricts movement while wearing protective clothing and breathing equipment; small compartments with low ceilings; the proximity of aviation fuel on hangar decks or ammunition in magazines or at gun mounts; movement through gas-filled tank areas or past hot metal bulkheads; the proximity of massed electrical cables; and/or the proximity of high pressure steam lines; Performs crash-rescue and firefighting duties involving air traffic or support operations where hazardous conditions are such that the expectancy for fire is high and potential for becoming destructive is great. Drives and operates firefighting vehicles, such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles; performs hazard and risk assessment techniques in completing initial incident analysis. Surveys the incident to identify materials involved, determines whether hazardous materials have been released, and evaluates surrounding conditions and predicting the likely behavior of a material and/or container.; Performs hazard and risk assessment and conducts a complete incident analysis. Conducts immediate incident surveys to completely identify materials involved, determines specific hazardous materials that have been released, analyzes conditions to identify the materials and containers involved. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Technician, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator Pump, Driver Operator ARFF, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) The following certification, if not already held, must be obtained within 12 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: Driver Operator Aerial.
