You will serve as a LEAD WATERFRONT SAFETY ADVOCATE in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will provide oversight in a variety of production work areas and Safety Program functional areas, making recommendations for improvement. You will provide support and service to ensure Safety Management System (SMS) concepts are communicated in the shipyard. You will lead the team on conducting scheduled and unscheduled inspections in buildings, dry docks, on ships, piers, and in various other facilities. You will identify, distribute and balance workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established work flow, skill level and/or occupational specialization. You will coach the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques and provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures. You will promote safety awareness through the engagement in production shop and project safety committees, development of safety campaigns, presentations, and published mishap prevention articles.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions to support OSHA requirements and to ensure safe working conditions, procedures, practices and equipment operating procedures are in compliance.
