About the Position: Serves as Medical Support Assistant (MSA) for the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) at a medical treatment facility (MTF) and provides direct assistance to the Chairperson, Incident Determination Committee (IDC), and the FAP staff in providing services to families and coordinating activities with a variety of medical, social service, and legal staff.
Duties
Receive patient information and compile into health care management system.
Utilize office automation software applications such as Microsoft office to compile various reports and documents.
Ensure appropriate management of patient medical information.
Perform receptionist and clerical support for in/out processing of patients.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- A candidate tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
- Incumbent is subject to central registry check (Department of Defense Child and Domestic Abuse reporting system)

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing receptionist, recordkeeping, and miscellaneous clerical duties in a clinic setting; utilizing an automated system to review patient's medical profile; and utilizing software applications to retrieve valid eligibility for care. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
