You will serve as a INTERDISCIPLINARY PHYSICAL SCIENTIST/ OCEANOGRAPHER/ MATHEMATICIAN as the Technical Lead in the Hydrographic Branch (NP411), Data Management Division (NP41), Hydrographic Department (NP4), Naval Oceanographic Office (NA VOCEANO) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Duties
You will be responsible for compiling data quality information per projects and providing synopses to Department officials to support final product review.
You will be responsible for assigning to field duty onboard survey vessels as the Senior NAVOCEANO Representative (SNR) or Subject Matter Expert (SME).
You will be responsible for having knowledge of hydrographic, bathymetric, and oceanographic processes, techniques, and guidelines and the ability to apply that knowledge to help ensure survey requirements are met.
You will be responsible for maintaining liaison with the Engineering department to resolve operational issues.
You will be responsible for preparing scientific reports and providing updates on assigned projects and evaluating scientific literature for latest advancements in hydrography and bathymetry.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience evaluating hydrographic and bathymetric programs and processes and recommendations improvements and plans in order to create a more efficient and effective organization.
Experience providing assistance in aspects of sonar and LIDAR data and sonar imagery validation to meet Navy Fleet objectives and requirements.
Experience making use of software and computer programming techniques, such as programming and scripting in C or Matlab, to analyze problematic bathymetric and ancillary data in new and innovative ways.
Experience with bathymetric, hydrographic, oceanographic, geodesic, statistics, navigation, cartography, applied mathematics, computer science, marine geology, marine geophysics, and acoustics which can be applied to the archival dissemination and analysis of bathymetric and hydrographic data via various physical principles.
Experience in shipboard software and systems testing with the Engineering department and documents, reports, and distributes changes that affect operational data collection and processing.

Basic Requirements:
- Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

- Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Oceanography Series 1360
Basic Requirements:

Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.

Basic Requirements:

Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.
