You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the REPAIR DEPARTMENT (Code 300), MECHANICAL DIVISION (Code 320), AUXILIARY SYSTEMS (Shop 38A) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will assist higher level Engineering Technicians providing engineering analysis, design, installation, testing, and evaluation of submarine machinery, systems and equipment to include diesel engines.
Assignments will often consist of minor phases or portions of larger engineering projects and will be relatively uncomplicated individual projects.
You will apply the basic engineering procedures and policies of the organization and field of work.
You will be assigned to assist a higher graded employee in the conduct of more complex engineering projects and will gain understanding of more advanced technical concepts and practices in the field.
You will monitor engineering tasks involving standard troubleshooting and assessments assigned to junior work center personnel and evaluate the subsequent progress and final recommendations for technical accuracy.
You will be reviewed primarily for technical accuracy and compliance with regulations

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
- This position will be required to travel for worldwide development to Diego Garcia. Must pass physical requirements (DGAR Screening) to allow you deployment in support of SSN overseas voyage repairs.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an IT-II designation.
- Completion of specific training will be required.
- Work around nuclear industrial areas may be required.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Assisting Lead Engineering Technicians with submarine engineering practices in the area of diesel engine and diesel engine subsystems. Experience working from submarine engineering technical manuals. Experience assisting Lead Technicians with submarine quality assurance program and references to determine repair efforts. Experience assisting Lead Technicians performing special engineering analyses and studies either in support of In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) or in-house initiatives to develop or evaluate improvements in design, maintenance engineering procedures and materials.

Series Definition:
This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the:
- methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and
- construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials.
Basic Requirements:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above):
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
- Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
- Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

Certification:
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
