You will serve as a RANGE CONTROL INSPECTOR in the RANGE AND TRAINING AREA MANAGEMENT DIVISION, RANGE CONTROL BRANCH, RANGE OPERATIONS SECTION of MARINE CORPS BASE.

Duties

You will serve as Range Control on-site inspector and enforcer of the Camp Lejeune Range Safety Program. You will monitor through onsite inspections that units are utilizing ranges and facilities correctly and that weapon systems and ammunitions are proper for the facility. You will ensure all units comply with MCIEAST–MCB Camp Lejeune Order 3570.1 and other established regulations, orders, and policies. You will answer questions and delivers guidance to ensure safe interpretation and understanding of range special instructions and/or Range Control procedures. You must possess a thorough knowledge of safety requirements for all ranges and training areas. You must possess a thorough knowledge of current/new environmental restrictions/concerns involving with safe use of range facilities in order to ensure that training units are aware of and in compliance with these requirements.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Work is performed primarily in a field setting. Range inspection work involving exposure to extreme weather conditions (heat, cold temperatures, rain, snow, dust and high wind conditions).
  • Moderate discomfort and travel is involved, and travel via off-road vehicle 4x4, on improved roads and range areas to brief and inspect ranges. Continuously patrolling all training areas/facilities and reporting any and all maintenance type issues.
  • Work often takes place around ammunition and explosives to include dud producing impact areas. Protective devices and gear are often required when performing on site work.
  • Completion of the Range Management Toolkit Course is desired.
  • Completion of the Inter-Service Range Safety Course (Intermediate) is desired.
  • Completion of the Weapon Danger Zone Course is desired.
  • Completion of the Laser Safety Course is desired.
  • This is a Mission Essential position

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Inspecting training areas and ensuring that training units are in compliance with applicable orders and policies.
