You will serve as a Data Technician in the Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) Quality Assurance, Inspection, Test and Training Branch of the Crane Maintenance Department of PSNS and IMF.
Duties
You will be responsible for the control, cataloguing, storage and distribution of technical data and documents relating to the Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) program.
You will process a wide variety of transactions (files, records, updates, transcribes and reviews all technical documents for completeness and accuracy).
You will review for errors and maintains complete accurate work pending files for each piece of Weight Handling Equipment in the inventory.
You will input data into programs such as Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, SharePoint and Navy Crane Document Repository (NCDR) The work has a substantive impact on the outcome of the assignment.
You will assemble work packages for crane service work.
You will set up, maintain and review for accuracy logs showing the status and location of work documents and correspondence.
You will scan, separate, upload official copies of documents and then catalogue the loaded documents into respective electronic files following established formatting and procedures.
You will provide assistance and requested information to management, supervisors, co-workers or other agencies by telephone, email, in written form or in person.
You will determine whether to release information based upon the nature or degree of sensitivity of the information and the requester’s authority to receive the information.
Requirements

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
GS-05: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing clerical support using automation software (e.g. inputting or gathering data, providing customer service, verifying documents, preparing reports, delivering correspondence or maintaining files) to process or maintain technical documents for an organization.
GS-06: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing clerical support using automation software (e.g. inputting or gathering data, providing customer service, verifying documents, preparing reports, delivering correspondence or maintaining files) to process and maintain technical documents for an organization.

Education
In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
GS-05: 4 years above high school
GS-06: 1 academic year of graduate education (or law school, as specified in qualification standards or individual occupational requirements) in a course of study that directly reflects the job-related KSAs/competencies necessary to satisfy the minimum qualifications and perform the duties of the position.
