You will serve as a TRAINING OFFICER for the NAVY REGION MID-ATLANTIC FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PORTSMOUTH NSY.

Duties

You will Verify personnel use the correct personal protection equipment during firefighting incidents to ensure safety. You will disseminate new occupational safety and health training technologies to a fire department. You will present fire protection and prevention education or training to employees. You will prepare practical exercises to evaluate student firefighter training progress.

Requirements

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

For The GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Providing instruction and training to personnel in use of fire equipment and fire suppression; 2) Providing safety inspection training to include detecting, reducing, and eliminating potential fire hazards; 3) Training personnel in the use of the correct personal fire protection equipment during firefighting incidents; and 4) Conducting training needs assessment with employees to verify skills are current and required certifications are in place. For the GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Performing structural, aircraft and shipboard fire protection and suppression. 2) Conducting fire safety inspections. 3) Operating and maintaining fire devices, equipment and vehicles. 4) Providing guidance and instruction for eliminating fire and life safety hazards. Firefighter Certification Requirements: Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector I, HazMat Incident Tech, CPR, and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
