You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PORTSMOUTH NSY.

Duties

You will analyze the environment (e.g., relationship between fuels, topography, wind, humidity) in the fire environment to ensure use of the correct firefighting apparatus. You will advise on training guidelines for the use of firefighting equipment, procedures, and techniques. You will modify the scope and purpose of a fire protection training program to correct deficiencies identified during live firefighting operations. You will inspect hazardous material storage to document potential vulnerabilities inside and outside of structures.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Responding to emergency incidents and directing fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical resources, (EMS) in immediate mitigation actions; 2) Leading and working as a member of a team to accomplish mission objectives; 3) Making sound tactical decisions while showing good judgement in stressful situations; 3) Interacting with customers, commands, general stakeholders, and the general public in a professional and effective manner to ensure positive outcomes; 4) Leading and/or managing personal in the delivery of basic life support and/or advanced life support including coordination/direction of ground ambulance transportation service; 5) Serving as the initial incident commander, effectively directing the actions of initial arriving companies in the absence of higher level fire officer's arrival; 6) Delivering accurate, effective, and professional oral and written communications, internal written communications, briefs, procedures, explanatory papers, correspondence, and investigative/fire/EMS/ reports; 7) Planning and/or leading company or station level training classes, skills practice, and company drills; 8) Responding to shipboard fires as a member of an organized response team and/or filling critical functions such as accountability, staging, and resource officer within the incident command system. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: FO 2, Insp. 1, Inst. 1, HazMat IC, NREMT-Basic.
