You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER (ASSISTANT CHIEF) at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, COMMANDER, NAVY REGION MID-ATLANTIC (CNRMA) of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PORTSMOUTH NSY. Duties

You will negotiate with others in a fire department organization (e.g., tenant organizations, external fire and emergency services, law enforcement) to obtain commitments for a fire and emergency services program. You will consider factors (e.g., wind direction, topography, sources of water, environmental hazards) to determine the positioning of fire apparatus, equipment, and tools in firefighting operations. You will implement a fire prevention and fire protection enforcement program to ensure the capability to perform inspections, investigations, and surveys. You will develop a junior firefighter or employee's annual goals or objectives in a performance review. You will implement a risk management plan in accordance with fire and emergency regulations. You will coordinate with officers on other shifts and stations to ensure work accomplishment, training, and priorities are met.

  • The incumbent must hold a valid state drivers license and be able to obtain a government drivers license. The incumbent must participate and pass annual EVOC training.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following 1) Deploying firefighting personnel and equipment during emergencies and non-emergency situations; 2) Managing fire department programs such as breathing air systems, personal protective equipment, purchasing /credit card holder, health and safety, fire department accreditation, or similar programs; 3) Applying and communicating to subordinates management objectives and goals for employees to include performance objectives and appraisals, individual development planning, and command mission; and 4) Directing attack for the effective control and extinguishment of fires, managing emergency medical patient care and ground ambulance transport for single- and multi-patient incidents, managing hazardous materials and special operations emergencies, and managing other threats and emergencies in order to save lives and property, and preserve the mission of the Installation and Region. NOTE: YOUR ANSWER MUST BE FULLY SUPPORTED BY THE EXPERIENCE DESCRIBED IN YOUR RÉSUMÉ. ***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: HAZMAT Incident Commander, Fire Officer III, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor II, CPR and National Registry Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Life Support (NREMT-B). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.***Selectee will be required to obtain Marine Firefighter certification within 1 year of hire.
