You will serve as a SUPERVISORY FIREFIGHTER (CAPTAIN) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES DEPARTMENT of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY PORTSMOUTH NSY.

Duties

You will develop training for junior employees in fire protection or prevention to enhance performance in emergency support functions. You will assess a junior firefighter or employee work performance to determine if performance objectives are being met. You will present fire protection and prevention education or training to employees. You will develop a fire protection or fire prevention program for a fire department. You will manage the development and implementation of a risk management plan for a fire department. You will prepare inspection reports to document findings of fire safety deficiencies. You will work 72hr a week schedule consisting of rotating 48hr-on/48hr-off scheduled shifts, with 4- and 8-day breaks

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Direct/ deploy firefighting personnel and equipment during emergencies and non-emergency situations; 2) Lead personnel in the delivery of basic life support and/or advanced life support including coordination/direction of ground ambulance transportation service; 3) Deliver accurate, effective, and professional communications, briefs, procedures, explanatory papers, correspondence, and investigative/fire/EMS reports; and 4) Plan and lead company- or station-level training classes, skills practice, and company drills. NOTE: This experience must be demonstrated in your resume. **This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: FO 2, Insp. 1, Inst. 1, HazMat IC, NREMT-Basic, D/O Pumper, (Marine or Shipboard Firefighter and ICS 300/400 required within 1 year of hire). The following certification is also required: Emergency Medical Technician - Basic and must have been awarded by National Registry(if you have a STATE EMT, but do not have NREMT, you MUST obtain National Registry within 12 months from the date of hire). NOTE: These certifications must have been awarded by DOD, IFSAC or Pro-Board to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
