This position is in the Health Information Management (HIMS) section of the Health Administration Services (HAS) service line of the Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS). The HIMS Scanning Unit assist the medical center in the transformation of paper documents to electronic documents in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) via VistA Imaging.

Duties

Major Duties include but are not limited to: receipt, intake, scanning, uploading, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information. electronically scanning or uploading various health information documents into VistA Imaging assuring that the scanned documents are associated with the correct patient, progress not, consultation, or document type in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). reviews each page for appropriate scanning criteria and assures that all necessary health and administrative information is integrated into CPRS. correctly indexes all documents imported or uploaded from other devices or sources including pdf, tiff, jpeg into VistA Imaging. maintains confidentiality of all electronic records and paper components of the health record or medical center program materials. utilizes a computer to perform a wide variety of record keeping, correspondence, and tracking operations. communicates or contacts administrative and clinal staff members to locate/obtain health records, documents, or requested information. opens and distributes mail, faxes, and documents received as established per service line process or routine. assists the medical center services and programs in preparation of records to be sent to National Records Archive or other facilities for storage. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/22/2024. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have one (1) year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, scanning/importing all NON VA & VA documents received for ECHCS, indexing medical records in accordance to VA guidance, performing self- quality and accuracy reviews, sending and recalling all Archive records from Federal Records Centers. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 2 years above high school. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 2 years above high school. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary; work may involve considerable walking, standing, bending in search of health records. Lifting and carrying of bulky records and boxes, usually not to exceed 50 pounds. Pushing carts is routine for retiring records.
