About the Position: Develops Army, joint, and interagency doctrine, policy, guidelines, and procedures and related products pertaining to the handling of deceased personnel during the range of military operations, to include Homeland Defense and military support to civil authorities. Incumbent provides technical assistance and subject matter expertise related to research, development, and acquisition of mortuary affairs supplies, equipment, and other materiel systems.

Duties

Serves as a technical expert for the development, review, and update of technical procedures for the search, recovery, evacuation, tentative identification, preservation, sanitation, decontamination, and temporary interment of deceased personnel. Coordinates proposed joint mortuary affairs doctrine, policy, and procedures with representatives of the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force, as well as DoD staff. Drafts, reviews, analyzes, and provides comments and recommendations on DoD and national level documents, publications, and policy relating to mortuary affairs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
