About the Position: Serves as a Safety and Occupational Health subject matter expert (SME) and technical inspector for safety and industrial hygiene of chemical, biological, radiological operations, security, emergency response, management, and doctrine withing the Department of the Army's Inspector General (DAIG) Technical Inspection Division.
Duties
Evaluate and correlate information from organizational inspections to identify systemic faults.
Coordinate and conduct focused compliance and special inspections, investigations, and inquiries to Army chemical, biological and radiological programs.
Inspect and interpret federal, DOD, Army, and other branches of service standards.
Propose new policies, guidelines, and regulations where existing technical criteria is incomplete.
Advise The Inspector General, Army Staff principals, and senior Army Leaders of complex operational deficiencies.
Provide fiscally responsible and technically achievable recommendations designed to mitigate risk and promote efficiency.
Inspect and investigate management oversight of technical operations and processes.
Inspecting, investigating, and communicating, non-compliance and systemic issues for DoD and Government-Owned Contractor-Operated laboratories and facilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
- You may be expected to travel up to 10% for this position.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Must be able to complete and pass a drug test.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 30 pounds is required.
- Must pass Department of Army Inspector General School.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: inspecting for safety and industrial hygiene within an organization; recommending procedures to mitigate risks of technical operations; and reviewing safety and hygiene reports to determine the presence of chemical, biological, or infectious agents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
