This position is a Coin Manufacturer located at the West Point Mint in the Production Division. As part of the Apprenticeship Program this position has been established below the full performance level (WG-10) to provide the employee with training in the position to be able to perform in-depth troubleshooting and repair techniques, inspection, loading and maintenance operations in the production of coins, die setting, stamping, die control, laboring and the use of other equipment and machines.

Duties

As part of the US Mint, West Point Manufacturer Certification Apprenticeship Program, you will have the opportunity, through training, to learn to perform all the duties to help you grow in this position. The following are the duties of this position at the full performance level WG-10. Possess the knowledge, skill, and ability to disassemble, repair, rebuild, modify, and adjust or manufacture component parts for automated feed systems, mills, clutch assemblies, feed conveyors, sensors, and actuators (electronic and hydraulic), adjust safety devices including door interlocks as necessary using hand tools, grinders, drill presses and other shop tools as necessary Perform fine adjustments that are required but are not limited to: adjusting the stroke, push off, timing and indexing and adjusting equipment to within tolerances of (.0001) Diagnose malfunctions due to various possible causes and perform repairs Determine extent of repairs required, materials or parts needed to complete repairs and disassembles, adjust, repair, and determine monitors machining of component parts of the presses Maintain complex presses and other machinery at each manufacturing step and process of the coin production equipment to maintain peak operating conditions within the plant The Manufacturer Certification and Apprenticeship Program (MCAP) will provide career growth and advancement opportunities for employees at the United States Mint while enhancing productivity, quality, safety; and strategic goals. MCAP will standardize coin and die manufacturing training and skill sets and improve productivity through flexibility by encouraging and promoting employees for gaining skills associated with several different jobs. MCAP will serve as a catalyst for developing an optimal workforce and workplace culture by improving employee skills, empowering employees to take ownership of their own career development, and creating partnerships for promoting a more cohesive and effective work environment.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 14 days of the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. You must meet the screen-out element Ability To Provide Production Support Services, normally addressed at the beginning of the online questions. In addition, you must also obtain an average score of two (2) for the following elements for this position as addressed through the online question in order to be considered minimally qualified. Your application will be evaluated in the following areas: Ability To Provide Production Support Services (screen-out), Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging), Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly etc), and the Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
