You will serve as the Safety & Occupational Health Manager for Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Washington.

Duties

You will investigate mishaps and hazardous incidents to determine causation factors and/or improper work/behavioral practices. You will review and interpret national, federal, defense, and Navy safety standards, manuals, reports and other formal written communications, and develop local guidance. You will evaluate safety program effectiveness and the achievement of safety objectives. Identify deficiencies, recommend corrective measures and develop implementation plans. You will perform safety analyses of data to identify trends and hazard reduction requirements and actions.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes when making site visits, as determined by site conditions and applicable safety regulations.
  • This position may require occasional travel from normal duty station. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Interpreting and applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, standards, procedures, and abatement measures to manage an Occupational Health Program; 2) Coordinating investigations of all mishaps resulting in lost time injury and property damage and ensuring reports define hazards: 3) Analyzing mishaps to promote safe work practices; and 4) Coordinating safety education, training and motivational programs, including developing or providing training or training materials.
