THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D2181P01 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.
Duties
As a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), GS-2210-9/11, you will serve as a base systems administrator to monitor the Local and Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN), including the planning, analysis, acquisition, design, development, implementation, quality assurance, configuration, installation, integration, maintenance testing, operational integrity, and/or management of networked systems for the transmission of information in voice, data, and/or video formats.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
Administer the base LAN.
Plan for current and future technology integration and work issues for compatibility and standardization based on current and projected customer needs.
Serve as a network security administrator for a large number of users on the installation.
Assist customers on the use of office automation computers, local and wide area networks, and other automated tools.
Resolve LAN related problems for the base.
Provide customer assistance and training for new network systems.
Implement network operating system and/or network application software and maintain contact with software suppliers to ensure that current releases of software products are in use.
Recommend and prepare operating policies and procedures for networks, system operations, and product assembly and installation.
Recommend methods and procedures and coordinate corrective action to optimize utilization of present equipment.
Conduct problem analysis to identify trends, ineffective practices or procedures, and equipment shortcomings.
Identify and document network requirements for specific needs of customers.
Conduct in-depth analyses of network usage, user complaints, traffic interruptions, hardware and software capabilities, and other relevant factors.
Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:
The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank of SrA. Maximum rank of TSgt.
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess IT related experience demonstrating attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 12 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization; experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment and experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion. GS-09 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 12 months of experience, education, or training receiving, maintaining, and issuing data storage media for computer operations; experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing; experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associated program instructions for processing; experience in at least one programming language, translating detailed logical steps developed by others into language codes that computers accept where this required understanding of procedures and limitations appropriate to use of a programming language; experience interviewing subject-matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow; experience in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system; experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment; and experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency.

Education
If you are using Education to qualify for this position:
GS-11 Level - Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
GS-09 Level - Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.
