As an Avionics or Instrumentation Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting NASA's aeronautics, research, and science missions. Your primary purpose is to ensure the reliability and functionality of complex electronic systems and instruments. You will be responsible for the modification, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of these systems, contributing to the success of groundbreaking missions and advancements in aerospace technology.

Duties

Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Works to modify, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, test, and calibrate systems or components on unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) or manned aircraft. Supports aircraft launch and recovery efforts as an avionics technician with general oversight. Executes tests to determine the serviceability of components, equipment, or aircraft systems, adhering to established procedures and electronics theory. Collaborates with engineers or technicians in testing, research, or development activities, applying advanced technical methods and principles. Analyzes and diagnoses complex faults in avionics systems and equipment using technical documentation. Foster a culture of engagement, diversity, inclusiveness, excellence and innovation. Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-09, you must have: a) One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal service: Assisting in the routine maintenance and minor repair of avionics and instrumentation systems; Supporting the identification and resolution of basic aircraft electrical issues using fundamental testing equipment and procedures; Utilizing and interrupting technical manuals and schematics for avionics and instrumentation systems. OR b) Completed all requirements for a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field. OR c) Completed at least 2 full academic years of graduate education in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field. OR d) An equivalent combination of experience and graduate education To qualify for GS-10, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service: Conducting tests on avionics and instrumentation components to ensure proper functionality; Diagnosing and resolving faults in avionics systems, utilizing technical documentation and electronic theory; Installing and/or calibrating avionics and instrumentation systems or components in accordance with technical guidelines and safety standards.
