You will serve as a PIPEFITTER in the Pipe Shop (56A), Hull Division (TRF 310), Repair Department (TRF 300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will serve as a pipefitter responsible to assemble, install, maintain, and repair piping systems of submarines. You will operate chemical flushing rigs to clean piping systems and components. You will install piping assemblies and components aboard submarines. You will disassemble, maintain, test, and assemble a variety of submarine hoses. You will conduct tests and inspect flexible hoses and hose installation aboard submarines. You will perform hydrostating testing on repaired and installed piping systems, host exchangers, and condensers.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Must also be able to maintain an IT Designation.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Experience fabricating piping assemblies by cutting, bending, brazing, and beveling. Experience preparing equipment and components for subsequent installation aboard submarines. Experience planning and laying out various piping systems and equipment, setting up routes, placing route openings, placing hangers for proper pitch and elevation, and determining and installing risers, expansion joints, pumps, gages, pressure regulators, and gaskets to proper specifications. Experience operating a torch to soft solder, silver solder, and braze piping systems in accordance with military specifications and prepares piping systems for welding. Experience assembling high pressure hose systems for hydraulics, oil, and water, and clean hose assemblies for hot water flushes.
