You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST of NAVSTA.
Duties
You will identify mishap causes and hazards to implement remedial measures
You will make recommendations to managers concerning safety program requirements, policies, and improvements to reduce mishap occurrences.
You will maintain the safety of employees using knowledge of occupational safety and health policies, directives, regulations, protocols and requirements.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Analyze data on work operations, mishaps, and safety practices to prepare reports of findings that propose corrective measures for unsafe conditions and hazardous work practices; 2) Investigate mishaps, hazard reports, and unsafe or unhealthful working conditions to protect personnel and property; 3 Advise personnel of safety and occupational health measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes; and 4) Conduct safety and occupational health inspections and surveys to evaluate effectiveness of unit safety program.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
For the GS-11:
Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
OR
Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology
OR
Have successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
